ABSTRACT

Background: Vascular malformation is a general term that includes congenital vascular anomalies of veins, lymph vessels, both veins and lymph vessels, or both arteries and veins vascular malformation, is a blood vessel abnormality. These are all present at birth and become apparent at different ages. Most are known to occur during development of the arteries, veins, and/or lymph vessels, but without specific cause. Most are congenital and few appear late in life. Aim: It was using different treatment modalities to reform, reshape, and reorganize to obtain near normal appearance and function. Materials and methods: An observational study done in VIMS - Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences, a superspeciality hospital, 20 cases of vascular malformations are taken from period January 2017 –August 2019. Consent was taken from all the patients, and counseling was done regarding the procedures we do, about surgical/ non-surgical methods, stages required and follow up. Results: Statistical analysis was done, results were tabulated and displayed in pie diagrams. Satisfaction scale was shown by VAS (visual analogue scale). Conclusion: Vascular malformations are mesenchymal lesions may be congenital/ acquired and may present late in life. Sometimes few congenital hemangiomas spontaneously resolve by growth of child, some if large may require steroids for suppression and to prevent recurrences. They are known for recurrences or residual lesions and surgery may be done in stages to obtain optimal results. Nonsurgical methods are done by intralesional sclerosants.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to investigate the perception of students, their parents, and nutrition teachers regarding environment-friendly foods (EFF) and the satisfaction with school meals at elementary schools. Questionnaires were sent to nutrition teachers at five elementary schools located in the Jindo area, Jeonnam province, and were distributed to students and their parents. A total of 351 questionnaires from students and 334 from parents were collected from March to April, 2013. In addition, 43 nutrition teachers/dietitians working at elementary schools in the Jindo area responded to questionnaires. Nutrition teachers primarily recognized the classification and certification standards of EFF, and verified the certification mark of EFF when they purchased foods. However, 13.4% of students and 38.6% of parents replied as 'know well' regarding the classification and certification standards of EFF and they verified the mark of EFF less often than the nutrition teachers (p < 0.001). Most of the nutrition teachers and parents indicated 'safety' as the main advantage of EFF. The students and parents were satisfied with EFF at home and school meals because of the safety and favorable effect on health. The results showed that EFF compromised 20~40% of monthly food costs for 51.1% of nutrition teachers. The overall score for satisfaction with school meals for students was 3.88 based on a 5-point Likert scale; however, that of the parents was 3.72. The nutrition teachers realized that the parents were more interested in EFF and satisfied with EFF than the students. The major barriers to using EFF in school meals were 'lack of information about EFF' and 'unstable supply.' Therefore, the above results suggested that there should be improvement in the supply of EFF to include more EFF in school meals and efforts should be made to provide students and parents with more information for understanding EFF.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Acute appendicitis is a type of abdominal disease that requires emergency surgery. Over the past three decades, laparoscopic appendectomy has become the standard operation for acute appendicitis. The aim of this paper is to compare the methods of single port appendectomy and conventional appendectomy and to illustrate the advantages of single port appendectomy. METHODS: The first group of patients underwent single port appendectomy using a surgical glove (Group 1), and those in the second group underwent surgery using the TriPort system (Group 2). The third group of patients underwent conventional three port surgery (Group 3). Questionnaires regarding patient satisfaction with scars were administered via telephone interview. Patient characteristics, histopathological data, postoperative data, and satisfaction score were analyzed by t-test and Pearson chi2 test. RESULTS: A statistically significant difference in satisfaction scores was observed among the three groups. Overall, patients in the single port group using a surgical glove would be more likely to recommend the procedure to friends and family than would patients in the other two groups. Better cosmetic results were achieved for both groups of patients who underwent laparoscopic single port appendectomy, compared to those who underwent conventional three port laparoscopic appendectomy, with statistically significant difference. CONCLUSION: Laparoscopic single port appendectomy using a surgical glove is a feasible and safe procedure and shows no differences in terms of risk, such as postoperative complication, compared to a conventional three-trocar technique. Use of this method resulted in better satisfaction compared with the other two groups, illustrating its cosmetic improvement.

ABSTRACT

Aims: The aim of the study was to evaluate and compare the oral stereognostic ability and satisfaction for fixed prosthesis in human being. Materials and Methods: The present study was carried out on 40 subjects, the purpose being to investigate the relation of oral perception to diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Two types of cast metal crowns-one had morphology closely resembling original tooth and other one confirmed to ideal contours were constructed on endodontically treated posterior tooth. One cast metal crown was randomly selected from two cast metal crown and fitted on prepared tooth. Oral stereognostic score of subject was determined by correct response to questionnaire based on the recognition ability of subjects. Patient satisfaction level was checked by psychometric parameter Likert scale. Same procedure was repeated with other type of cast metal crown. Results: Data obtained were compared by paired and unpaired two sample t-test. Oral stereognostic score and satisfaction score were found to be higher for cast metal crown with morphology resembling to original tooth due to recognition and discriminatory ability of subjects and recall-memory. Oral stereognostic level was found to be higher in younger than older subjects. The level of satisfaction was found to be higher in older subjects than younger subjects. Conclusion: It was concluded that acceptance of fixed prosthesis is not only based on dentist's routine procedure of treatment and patient's judgment about oral health, function, and esthetics, but also depends upon patient's oral perception and discriminatory skill for external morphology of fixed prosthesis.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study were to : a) evaluate the nutrition status of one hundred and forty five recipients and one hundred and forty nine non-recipients of home-delivered meals service program, b) examine the teeth status of recipients of the program, c)analyze the nutritional values of meals, and identify the attitudes of recipients and non-recipients were found. Four meals offered by Nambu seniors center were met the recommended dietary allowances in calorie, protein, and vitamin C. The mean score of meal satisfaction was 3.7 out of five-point scale.

ABSTRACT

Intoduction: The phrase "Monitored Anesthesia Care" refers to instances in which an anesthesiologist has been called upon to provide specific anesthesia services to a particular patient understanding a planned procedure, in connection with which a patient receives local anesthesia. Monitored anesthesia care is being increasingly used in the 1990s for a wide variety of diagnostic and therapeutic procedure. The primary objective in providing monitored anesthesia care is to ensure patient comfort and safety. METHOD: We classified patients in three groups by premedication and oxygen administration, no premedication and no oxygen administration (group A), premedication and oxygen administration (group B), premedication and no oxygen administration (group C), measured vital signs and SpO2 (peripheral oxygen saturation) from just before operation, and checked the satisfaction score of surgeon and patients. RESULT: SpO2 and satisfaction score of surgeon and patients are the best at premedication and oxygen administration group. CONCLUSION: Monitored anesthesia is assumed to give more comfort and safety to patients than local anesthesia alone.
